Beat The Streets honors wrestling coach Larry Cantor, Beat the Streets Man of the Year

New York City – The Metropolitan Wrestling Association honored the Simon Baruch middle school wrestlers and the 2005 Mayor’s Cup High School Champions at the Cottage Restaurant on June 1.. The dinner highlighted the inception of the MWA dream-middle school wrestling clubs such as the Simon Baruch, as“feeder”programs to New York City Public High School Interscholastic competition. Larry Cantor, PSAL Wrestling Commissioner, presented the honorees with wrestling equipment donated by the Asics Corporation and was named USA/MWA Beat the Streets Program Man of the Year for 2005..

President Setrak Agonian spoke to the 150 parents, wrestlers, coaches and MWA Board Members."The wrestlers we are honoring today are outstanding successful high school wrestlers in the New York Metropolitan Area. They place a high value on their skills on the mat as well the classroom, and we are proud to be honoring them."

The Baruch Wrestling Club, the first of its kind in Manhattan, was a huge success with 28 wrestlers and two coaches. Next year, five additional middle school programs will join Baruch in providing wrestling skill development and the first USAW/MWA Metro League with intra-mural competition.

The New York Athletic Club hosted in January, the CSTV nationally televised dual meet between Lehigh University and Missouri. Members of the Baruch Wrestling Club were appreciative fans.
